Pathologies of The Left

We made some chicken stock the other day. Our first time. It's easy. You should try it some time. We got the recipe from the internet (of course... our cookbooks are gathering dust ever since we installed our old Sony Vaio in the kitchen and mounted an old LCD screen to the wall).

We found this recipe on JamieOliver.com:
Place the chicken carcasses, garlic, vegetables, herbs and peppercorns in a large, deep-bottomed pan. Add the cold water and bring to the boil, skim, then turn the heat down to a simmer. Continue to simmer gently for 3-4 hours, skimming as necessary, then pass the stock through a fine sieve.
Why bring it up here?  Because, judging from the comments left on the JamieOliver.com site, not even a recipe for chicken stock offers a respite from the pathologies of the left.  See below the fold to see what we're talking about.  Even chicken stock is viewed as destroying the planet!

Simmer for 3-4 hours! Kiumars is right. It uses up too much gas/electricity. Hasn't Jamie ever heard of pressure cookers? Nothing cooks stock like a pressure cooker...

Behold: A bunch of foodies who can't even make chicken stock without wringing their hands and filing an Environmental Impact Statement.  We call it Stock Homemade Syndrome.

Global warming... come on, i hope you don't have a car, use a furnace or air conditioner, wear anything made of rubber, watch television.... I could go on for days, 3.5 hours of simmering stock is well worth it, I make stock once a week, chicken and brown veal, and my gas bill was 12$ last month. Besides factories don't pollute right???
He's right. 3.5 hours of simmering stock is well worth it. (And we have an electric stove, so it's even cheaper in these parts!)

  1. I approve of global warming. I'm doing everything that I can to cause it. Global cooling is deadly - for both people and the all-important (though no one ever says WHY) animals. Everyone thrives when the climate is warmer (check some actual history instead of "possible computer scenarios"), and everyone/thing suffers when it's cold. So I'm keeping a stewpot on the stove 24/6 (I don't cook on Sundays), using traditional light bulbs, and using my fireplace whenever I'm chilly. And I live in the nanny state (CA)! Bwahahaha!

  2. There should be a bounty on AGWers. When I was a kid - some 40 years ago - coyotes were a problem in my neck of the woods. The DNR issued a bounty of $10 per left ear (Don't ask how they determined if the ear was left or right). In short order, there was no coyote problem.

    I propose a similar bounty on global warmers. I, personally, will pay ten bucks for Al Gore's left ear.
